Classes & Workshops for Adults
Throughout the calendar year the Poetry Centers offers non-credit creative writing workshops as well as classes and seminars on poetics, poetry movements, and individual poets.
Poetry Joeys
A Saturday morning reading and activity group for children ages 4-10 taught by experienced poets who inspire children to expand and develop their language flexibility.
K-5 Residencies
The Poetry Center and the Creative Writing Program have teamed up to offer twelve week residencies by visiting poets and writers in Tucson elementary schools.
Corrido Contest
This contest for high school students encourages historical and cultural awareness and provides students with a vehicle to express themselves. All Arizona high school students in grades 9-12 are encouraged to apply by writing corridos in Spanish and/or English.
Field Trips
The University of Arizona Poetry Center’s special collection library is a great place for a field trip and can serve as a hands-on supplement to your students’ exploration of poetry. The Poetry Center hosts students from preschool to college.
Prison Workshops
The program brings poets and teachers to the state’s prisons, providing inmates an opportunity to express themselves creatively through writing.
