Fall 2008 Poetry Joeys Schedule
Sponsored by Colleen and Jim Burns

All activities take place at 10 a.m. in the Children’s Corner of the Poetry Center.

Hop on over to the Poetry Center with your favorite 4–8 year olds to play around with poetry. Poetry Joeys is a Saturday morning reading and activity group for children taught by experienced poets, writers, and teaching artists who base their lessons on the Poetry Center’s curriculum VERSE! Poetry for Young Children.

This fall, Poetry Joeys participants will help write lyrics for Mr. Tidy Paws and the Orangetime Fun Band who will serenade concert-goers during their December 13 performance. Come to Poetry Joeys sessions in September, October, and November, and your words just may make the playlist!

Saturday, September 27

Help turn the Children’s Corner into an echo chamber with children’s author and teaching artist, Marge Pellegrino, who will teach “Why am I Repeating Repeating Myself?”, a lesson from VERSE!

Marge Pellegrino is the author of two picture books, an early chapter book, and an upcoming young adult novel about Sanctuary from Frances Lincoln books.

Saturday, October 25

Boulder City first-grade teacher, Karen Coe, teaches “Today I Talked to Animals,” a lesson from VERSE! Arachnophobes beware: spiders may be lurking in the stacks!

Karen Coe is a graduate of Southern Utah University and Nova University and has over 20 years teaching experience at the K–2 level.

Saturday, November 22

Superkalafragalistic Onomatopoeia! Poet and teaching artist Kaitlin Meadows teaches “Hear Your Way into a Poem,” a lesson from VERSE!
