2008 Internship Opportunities
- Presentations & Symposium: Coordinate details surrounding the Reading Series, our annual symposium, and other presentation programs.
- Scholarships & Awards: Promote, administer, and coordinate local, regional, and national poetry contests, including the Fieries and Snuffies Residency for emerging writers.
- Education: Work with Library and Programs staff to coordinate adult and k-12 education programs and to provide presentations and activities for student groups visiting the Poetry Center.
- Corrido: Provide marketing, research, and logistical support for all aspects of the Corrido Contest. Bilingual (Spanish/English and/or Tohono O'odham English) applicants are encouraged to apply.
- Library: Support library staff in managing a special collection library of contemporary poetry, managing a rare book room, managing an electronic database, assessing the collection, and/or creating exhibitions of material from the Poetry Center archives.
- Development: Learn how a not-for-profit arts organization builds partnerships and revenue to support its mission and fund its operations and programs. Development internships may include grant and foundation research, grant-writing support, preparation of fund-raising materials.
- Marketing: Develop and maintain mailing databases, coordinate and plan targeted mass-mailings, design signage, and research potential sources of publicity and support.
Internship Program at UA Poetry Center
Interns make a significant contribution to Poetry Center literary programs, education initiatives, and library projects while supporting their own professional development. We provide opportunities in the areas of arts administration, arts education, arts marketing, library science, and non-profit development (fundraising). We hope to attract individuals who are motivated, thoughtful, creative, and detail-oriented. Interns at the Poetry Center should have an interest in contemporary poetry, arts administration, and/or special collections library work. Both graduate and undergraduate students are encouraged to apply.
General Information
Academic Credit
Interns may receive up to 3 academic credits for their work. (Each academic credit represents an average of 3 intern hours per week.)
Acknowledgments
Interns will receive acknowledgment in publications produced and projects completed.
Application Process
Intern applications are considered on an ongoing basis. We offer summer- and semester-long opportunities.We accept applications on a rolling basis; we will begin accepting applications for fall 2008 and spring 2009 starting in mid-july.
