For Service Groups
Your community service group, campus club, or other philanthropic organization can help support The University of Arizona Poetry Center’s
Stanza Bonanza; a book drive designed to help schools’ libraries build their collections of contemporary poetry. Adopt an area elementary, middle, or high school by pledging to raise a designated amount of money that will enable the Poetry Center to purchase 25 books of poetry for one area school library. If your group is feeling ambitious, you can adopt all three schools in a neighborhood (elementary, middle, high). To purchase single volumes visit our gift registry at
http://www.uofabookstores.com/uaz/stanzabonanza.asp
Poetry doesn’t just build language skills, it builds social skills, math skills, and critical thinking skills. Studies show that students who participate in the arts are move likely to participate in a math or science fair; they also out perform their peers on SATs by 103 points.
Stanza Bonanza is a challenge to schools to match our donation and build their collections of poetry with books that represent the aesthetic and cultural diversity of what is being written today. We hope that the currency of these books and the read-a-thon held in conjunction with the program will entice readers, librarians, and teachers to take a closer look at the poetry sections in their libraries.
Any community service group is eligible to adopt a school. Register with Renee Angle at 626-9625 and pledge to raise the needed sum to seed an elementary, middle, or high school with a Stanza Bonanza kit. Monies are due April 11th, 2008. Checks should be made payable to the University of Arizona Foundation—Poetry Center.
Total Cost of Elementary Kit $350.24
Total Cost of Middle School Kit $384.39
Total Cost of High School Kit $359.80
Organizations that adopt a school will have their name on the bookplate of every book that is donated to their school. They will receive a certificate of thank you and a chance to present the kit to their school(s).
All Stanza Bonanza kits will be distributed by May 1st, 2008.
